Malaysian delegation visits DST

THE visiting public relations officers from Malaysia yesterday visiting DST headquarters in Kg Rimba and were briefed about the working of the organisation.
The head of the five-member delegation, Jaafar Jantan, the head assistant director of the communications of Malaysia’s Public Service Department, was accompanied by the personnel from the Information Department under the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) and DST.
The delegation visited several units under DST including Kristal FM and DST Care.
Jaafar Jantan told The Brunei Times that the visit give them an opportunity to exchange views on how both countries are disseminating the information to public.
“Bruneian and Malaysian media has many similarities but the Sultanate has its own perspective. The electronic media in Malaysia is quite big in comparison to Brunei because Malaysia has the population of more than 35 million. This has led us to use more advanced technology,” said Jaafar, adding that this is the reason why Malaysia has a big workforce in the media industry.
“Every county has its own purpose. Malaysia needs a large media workforce and advanced technology as it caters to a large number of people.
He said the prime objective of media agency which is to disseminate information. “Brunei has done a great job in disseminating reliable and authentic information to public.
“We have achieved several objectives during this visit such as exchanging ideas, information and knowledge from Brunei’s media agency and vice versa,” he said,
He said that Brunei and Malaysia’s media agencies have strengthened their relationship through several programmes.
The Malaysian delegations comprises acting directors and officers under public relation department from information department, Ministry of Youth and Sport and Ministry Communication and Multimedia.
In the afternoon session, the delegation attended a Hari Raya Aidil Fitri celebration at Dewan Pengiran Setia Negara at Information Department.
Today, the Malaysian delegation will be visiting Radio Televisyen Brunei (RTB) and the National Disaster Management Centre (NDMC).
