FIVE BRUNEIANS comprising authors and drama enthusiasts had been participating in a week-long workshop in drama writing from August 1-7 held by the Southeast Asia Literary Council (MASTERA) in one of West Java’s highlands in Bogor, Indonesia.

Led by Hj Mohd Hussain Abdul Rahman, the delegation comprises Kartini Hj Sapar, Mohd Shahrin Hj Metussin, Lenna Norsusilanita Bahari and Muhammad Nur Sallehuddin Hj Osman. They’re representing the Language and Literature Bureau (DBP) under the Ministry of Culture Youth and Sports, as a member of MASTERA Brunei Darussalam.

One of the participants, Kartini Hj Sapar, an assistant editor at DBP, who also has written books of children stories, said that hosted by MASTERA Indonesia, the event saw a total of 22 participants from Brunei, Singapore, Malaysia and the host country.

“The programme provides the participants better understanding about writing a script for drama performance,” Kartini told _The Brunei Times _via a short message from Bogor yesterday.

Each leader from the participating country also conducted their sessions during the programme, she added.

She said that the programme aims to produce creative drama scriptwriters and explore each other’s culture, social issues in a society and way of life of the people that can be used for stage drama. “The programme brings benefit for the drama scriptwriting in Brunei,” she said, adding referring to fruitful discussions and sharing sessions throughout the workshop.

She hoped that each participant can produce quality drama scriptwriting, which is accepted by the society.

The MASTERA Writing Programme is conducted annually in effort to enhance regional cooperation for the promotion and development of Malay literature.

They return home today.
