PREPARATIONS for His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s upcoming 69th birthday celebrations in Temburong is well underway.

Minister of Home Affairs, Yang Berhormat Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Hj Awang Badaruddin Pengarah Dato Paduka Hj Awang Othman led a delegation to the district yesterday on a preliminary visit to assess the rehearsal for the field performance at the Temburong Community Hall.

Themed ‘Raja Masyhur Negara Makmur’, the performance is a musical depicting the country’s achievement and development in the aspects of education, religion, socio-economy and development throughout the 47 years of His Majesty’s leadership. The minister who is chairman of the celebration’s national committee was only able to watch two out of the four segments of the performance.

The performance gathered students from the Temburong Arabic Preparatory School, Sultan Hassan Secondary School, primary schools, National Service Programme (PKBN) members, association members, civil servants as well as members of Village Consultative Councils.

YB Pehin Dato Hj Awang Badaruddin said Temburong has always produced something special for His Majesty’s birthday celebration.

“Even though Temburong has a small population and limited resources, they were able to show us an interesting performance. The celebration is an indication of the togetherness and cooperation between not only the civil servants but also village residents. This is something that we can be proud off. I would like to say thank you to all,” he said.

A full rehearsal for the performance will take place on Monday (August 10) at 9.45am.

The minister will also visit Belait on Tuesday (August 11) and Brunei Muara district on Wednesday (August 12) for other preliminary visits.

The Belait performance for the celebration will take place at the Municipal Field, while in the Brunei Muara district, the event will take place at the Taman Haji Sir Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien in the capital. For Tutong district, the final rehearsal will be held on Thursday (August 13). The minister was accompanied by Deputy Minister Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Hj Awg Halbi Hj Mohd Yussof. Also present were Legislative Council member Yang Berhormat Hj Sulaiman Hj Ahad, Temburong District Officer Hj Abdul Hamid Dato Paduka Hj Abdullah, and senior officials from the ministry.

After viewing the rehearsal, the minister and his delegation then proceeds to Kg Sumbiling, Mukim Amo for a working visit.
