Six Bruneian students to join science competition in Indonesia

SIX science students under the Special Education Unit (UPK) will represent Brunei at the 4th ASEAN PlusThree Junior Science Odyssey (APTJSO) in Indonesia at the end of this month.

The students will be accompanied by two supervisors from the Ministry of Education from August 24 until 29 at the camp held at the Centre for Science & Technology Research in Serpong, Tangerang.

The delegation comprises Year Eight to Year 10 students from the Paduka Seri Begawan Sultan Science College (Maktab Sains), Chung Hwa Middle School in Bandar Seri Begawan and Belait District as well as Jerudong International School.

According to the UPK, the camp’s objectives include providing opportunities for students to share ideas and experiences while developing their ability to carry out research and cultivating creativity in the field of science and technology.

The camp, themed ‘Biodiversity towards Innovative, Smart & Green Society’, seeks out talented students aged between 13 and 15 through poster contests, lecture sessions, talks and experiments.

The statement said the programme is carried out by the ASEAN+3 Centre for the Gifted in Science (ACGS) and handled by The Agency for Assessment & Application of Technology or Badan Pengajian dan Penerapan Teknologi (BPPT) in Indonesia.

The programme is supported by the Indonesian Information and Communication Ministry (KOMINFO) and Ministry of Receipt, Technology and Higher Education.
