Temburong bridge contracts out this year
TEMBURONG
THE Ministry of Development will announce the winning bids for the next two phases of the Temburong bridge construction sometime this year.
Minister of Development Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Hj Suyoi Hj Osman said the ministry will award the two contract packages, namely the CC3 (navigation bridges) and CC4 (Temburong road).
“These two packages will run simultaneously because they are linked with one another. We want to start the construction work at the same time to avoid delays,” the minister told reporters on the sidelines of a donation ceremony in Temburong.
He said CC2 (marine viaducts), the first construction contract package of the mega bridge project, was awarded to Brunei-Korean joint venture Daelim Swee for over $600 million to build a bridge over the Brunei Bay to connect Temburong with the rest of the country.
“Alhamdullilah, this project is running smoothly as expected and Daelim Swee Company has already started out the earthwork,” the minister said.
“The construction work will commence once the earthwork and construction of the retaining wall have been completed by the participating parties,” he added.
The bridge project is expected to be completed at the end of 2018.
According to the Public Works Department website, CC3 involves the construction of navigation bridges across Brunei Channel and Eastern Channel. It connects ramps to Jalan Kota Batu with a length of about 1.1km.
Meanwhile, CC4 will comprise land viaducts with the building of embankment road and river-crossing bridges. There will be a turnaround facility with the reconfiguration of Jalan Labu at connection point. The length of the bridge is about 11.8km.
A previous report said the project has six contracts that will be rolled out in phases.
