THE Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) hosted a Hari Raya Aidil Fitri celebration yesterday for 130 police cadets from schools nationwide.

ASP Pg Hj Abdul Aziz Pg Hj Muhammad, officer-in-charge of the Brunei Police Cadet Corps, said the annual event aimed to foster closer ties between the students and police. The gathering took place at the multipurpose hall of the RBPF Headquarters, Gadong.

In attendance as the guest of honour was ASP Pg Saifuddin Pg Hj Yussof, senior training officer of the Police Training Centre.

During the celebration, the guests recited Doa Tahlil and Doa Arwah in remembrance of the deceased members of the Brunei Police Cadet Corps. The guest of honour also presented a donation to Salim Sisa, the father of a departed former police cadet.

Certificates were also given to a number of students who excelled in the marching competition and Outward Bound Brunei Darussalam course.

The Brunei Police Cadet Corps was established in 1977 by the RBPF together with the Ministry of Education. It aimed to promote community awareness and responsibilities among youth as well as encourage character-building.

In 2012, there were reportedly a total of 1,435 police cadets from 30 different public and private schools.
