Jalinan Kasih RTB brings cash, food to those in need
RADIO Televisyen Brunei (RTB) travelled across five locations in Belait last week to hand over donations of cash and food to six underprivileged families under their Jalinan Kasih Project.
RTB's Head of Radio Programming Pg Ahmad Pg Hj Mahmud led the delegation, which included members of the recently launched Belait District Radio Club.
Amongst the recipients was former military man Hj Rosman Hj Awg Damit, who is living in government barrack housing in Jln Dermawangsa after his house at the Panaga National Housing Scheme was damaged in a fire last February.
Explaining his current plight, Hj Rosman said that he is relying solely on his military pension to fund the repairs to his damaged house, estimated at $15,000, because he is unable to secure a job due to health issues.
“I have tried to find work as a security guard, but unfortunately I have yet to be certified fit (to work) because I have a problem in my left leg,” said the 45-year-old, who currently has to use a wheelchair.
“Right now my wife and our four children are relying on my pension, but my wife plans to sell some food to help support our income.”
32-year-old widow Emmielia Kartiena Ahmad Zaini was another recipient who lives with her family in a two bed-room unit under government barrack housing.
“I moved into this unit last month, having lived with my parents nearby after my husband passed away last November because he had problems with his heart,” she said.
The mother of five is currently unemployed, but is searching for job to start in as soon as her youngest son no longer needs her direct supervision.
According to Pg Ahmad, the funds for the project were made possible through charitable donations amongst staff of RTB and members of the Belait District Radio Club.
“It is important that these families are also able to celebrate Hari Raya Aidil Fitri despite the challenging circumstances they are in,” he said.
