IMMEDIATE action has been taken to fix Ramadhan stalls damaged by strong winds on Saturday across the country, according to the Manager of Riza Fudhlana Management Services, who oversee five markets in three districts.

Pg Hj Haris Pg Hj Duraman told The Brunei Times yesterday that the Tudung Saji Market in Kuala Belait was the worst hit, requiring the company to replace four stalls in the early hours of Sunday morning.

“The stormy, windy conditions affected all five markets that we maintain across Brunei. Damage was mostly to the metal framework of stalls, and the material that covers the roof,” he said.

A team of 10 employees from Riza Fudhlana arrived at the Tudung Saji market at 1am on a Sunday, working into the wee hours of the morning to install four new stalls, in addition replacing torn roofing and bent framework.

Alhamdullilah, we managed to fix all the stalls by Sunday morning, so stalls across the country could operate as normal that day in the afternoon,” he said.

To prevent future damage to stalls during strong winds, Pg Hj Haris advised vendors to not modify anchors installed by the company. “We have found that sometimes the vendors modify the canvas anchor used by us, when they are adding or extending the camp,” he said.

“When they modify and open the anchor, it can be very dangerous. If vendors do choose to extend or add on to the stalls, they should not release our anchor.”

Riza Fudhlana Management Services oversees all licensed Ramadhan stalls in Belait, Tutong and Brunei-Muara this year, which are under the purview of the Municipal Department.
