CHUNG Hua Middle School Kuala Belait yesterday donated $11,896 to the Belait District's Orphan Fund, which it raised through a jogathon held in conjunction with the National Family Day.

This is the first occasion the school has donated to the orphan fund, having previously donated to the several other organisations, including Centre for Children with Special Needs (KACA) and Pusat Ehsan.

Principal of Chung Hua Kuala Belait Hong Geok Cheng yesterday said that donation cards were issued leading up to the school’s jogathon in June, which allowed students and staff to collect money from family and close friends.

“Typically we do these kind of donations once every two years, once we get approval from the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Home Affairs,” she said.

“A percentage of donations goes to the school for charitable causes, while the remaining goes to one organisation or fund that we select.”

Another Belait businesswoman, Hajah Aisha Ismail, also donated a sum of $2,000 to the fund yesterday.

The Belait District Officer Hj Haris Othman was on hand yesterday to receive the donations from the two donors.

Over the past two weeks, several donations have been made to the fund, including a $5,000 contribution from Emas Laut Sdn Bhd and Subtec Sdn Bhd, as well a donation of $2,649 from Pertiwi.

The Belait District Office in a statement expressed its gratitude to both donors for their contribution, and encouraged all those wishing to donate to the fund to visit the Belait District Office during working hours.
