Over $40,000 donated to Mukim Sengkurong orphans

OVER $40,000 was distributed among 96 oprhans of Mukim Sengkurong yesterday in a handover ceremony that took place at the Sultan Sharif Ali Mosque in Sengkurong.
The orphans - who also received food hampers at the event - came from Kampung Sengkurong A, Kampung Sengkurong B and Kampung Tanjong Nangka.
Following some welcoming remarks by the mosque’s Takmir Committee Chairman Rozisham Hj Chuchu, Permanent Secretary of Religious Affairs Dato Seri Setia Awg Hj Abdul Aziz Orang Kaya Maharaja Lela Hj Mohd Yusof handed over the donations.
Speaking with The Brunei Times, Imam Hj Hamdini Hj Garif said that the donations had come from “villagers and the community”, and are collected and distributed annually to orphans in the mukim in conjunction with the blessed month of Ramadhan.
He said that all orphans who receive the donations must be aged 18 and below, and shortlisted by the Community Development Department (JAPEM).
Collection of donations at the mosque for next year’s handover ceremony is slated to begin soon, he added.
Among those also present yesterday were Mukim Sengkurong Penghulu Hj Musa Hj Tahir, Village Head of Kampong Sengkurong A Hj Abdullah Hanif OKMD Hj Saman, members of the Sultan Sharif Ali Mosque Takmir Committee and officers from the Ministry of Religious Affairs.
