THE International Women Club of Brunei (IWCB) yesterday handed out donations to 100 orphans at the Masjid Suri Seri Begawan Raja Pengiran Anak Damit in Kg Manggis/Madang.

The initiative is part of the IWCB’s charity in the noble month of Ramadhan.

President of the IWCB, Ungku DAtin Hjh Fanzah Hj Osman said that the month is a special month for Muslims as it does not only entail the daily abstinence from food and drink but to also share and give to those less fortunate and in need.

She also added that the IWCB is dedicated to bringing joy and uplifting the spirits of orphans during the blessed month so they may have a meaningful Ramadhan and a festive Aidilfitri celebration in the upcoming weeks.

The ceremony began with a tahlil and doa arwah recital that saw the participation of not only the orphans, but their parents and guardians, Mukim Berakas B grassroots leaders and members of the IWCB.

This was then followed by a presentation of gifts, cash donations and Raya green packets led by the IWCB president and other members of the club.

Among the items included were foodstuff and packed drinks along with cash donations that were collected through the IWCB members’ fundraising events.

Additionally three members of the IWCB also gave personal donations from their families to each of the children.

Later on, the orphans were treated to a sungkai at a specifically prepared eating area at the mosque where several members of the IWCB contributed cooked food and drinks for the occasion.

The IWCB was set up in 1988 with the aim of helping foreigners in Brunei to settle in through various social activities. Now they focus more on organising events and activities supporting charitable causes rather than primarily for social integration.
