SEVENTEEN orphans whose parents were former members of the Village Consultative Council (MPK) of Skim Tanah Kurnia Rakyat Jati (STKRJ) Lorong 3, Seria, received donations handed by the village head of Lorong 3 last week.

The recently appointed village head, Hj Sadin Hj Ibrahim, said several private individuals from Seria contributed to the donations. It is part of the annual fundraising for the MPK Orphans.

Businessmen Wong Ming Ching and Koo Kong Loi joined Hj Sadin in a handover ceremony at the Multipurpose Hall in Seria Town recently.

Hj Sadin also told The Brunei Times that he has been appointed as an amil to collect zakat this year from his community, which is home to around 3,000 Muslims.

“Before this, the zakat collections for Lorong 3 were handled by the imams at our local mosques as we did not have a village head for a decade,” he said.

“I will work closely with the Department of Collection and Distribution for zakat, and promise to be fair, honest and trustworthy in collecting (the alms) for the community.”

A total of 310 amils were appointed on June 11 by the Ministry of Religious Affairs to collect from 140 locations nationwide.
