Man gets 3 years’ jail for drug consumption
BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN
THE Magistrates’ Court yesterday sentenced a man to serve three years in jail for a second offence of consuming drugs.
Defendant Mohamad Zainey Abdullah, 45, was arrested on March 26, 2009, during a Narcotic Control Bureau raid at Kg Saba Darat Tengah for suspected drug related activities.
Following investigations, Mohamad Zainey tested positive for the presence of methamphetamine.
The defendant later admitted that he had consumed the drugs three weeks prior to his arrest.
The court document stated that the defendant has a previous conviction in 1993.
During the proceedings yesterday, the court did not find any extenuating factors to order the defendant to undergo a Probation Order and Community Service.
The defendant was given opportunities to report to the supervision programme but never did and he was also found to have consumed drugs during that period.
During the proceedings yesterday, Mohamad Zainey was ordered to serve the jail sentence with immediate effect.
