UNISSA joins ASEAN Islamic universities meet

TWO representatives from Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) attended the inaugural ASEAN Islamic Universities Association (AIUA) meeting and seminar held from June 12-14 in Banjarmasin, Indonesia.

Hj Mohd Samari Hj Mohd Noh, UNISSA’s acting treasurer attended the meeting on behalf of the university’s rector while Dean of Students Dr Azme Hj Matali presented a paper, the “Islam Wasathiyaah: Brunei Darussalam’s experience” during the seminar.

The first meeting was hosted by the Institut Agama Islam Negeri (IAIN) Antasari, Banjarmasin, Indonesia.

UNISSA was among 55 Islamic higher learning institutions that participated at the AIUA.

The other Islamic universities came from Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand.

Three other similar functions were also held in conjunction with the AIUA.

These are the Rectors of ASEAN Islamic Universities Forum and Vice Rectors of Academic and Institutional Development Gathering, as well as the Colloquium of the Accreditation of Higher Education.
