Yayasan furnishes widow’s home
A WIDOWED mother of five who recently moved into government barrack housing in Mumong had her place furnished yesterday by a donation from Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah (YSHHB).
Thirty-two-year-old Emmielia Kartiena Ahmad Zaini, who moved into the the two-bedroom unfurnished unit only a few days ago, received mattresses, two bunk beds, tables and electrical supplies from YSHHB’s Managing Director Hj Brahim Hj Ismail.
YSHHB’s Assistant Managing Director Hjh Donnaliza Abdullah Puasa said the organisation was made aware of the mother's plight from the Village Head of Kg Mumong Yang Berhormat Hj Mohd Yusof Dulamin, who was also present yesterday during the handover of donations.
“YSHHB has purchased these donations for the family to enable them to live more comfortably, especially for the children who are still attending school. With the tables and chairs provided they will be able to study in a better environment,” said Hjh Donnaliza.
Emmielia, whose husband passed away last November due to heart problems, had been living in her grandparents' house nearby in Mumong, until she received the government barrack housing unit in April.
“Although we got the house in April, we have only just moved in because we have been cleaning the place and sorting out the utilities,” said Emmielia, who is paying $30 monthly for the unit, excluding electricity and collection of rubbish.
Her five children receive a basic necessities allowance of $65, with four also receiving an educational allowance of $65. Emmielia said she does not receive any allowance personally.
“I cannot thank YSHHB enough, for helping my family out in this difficult time. When my youngest child does not need my direct supervision I will begin working,” she said.
