A GOVERNMENT official yesterday raised concern with the low attendance rate of Public Works Department (PWD) employees at the department’s Health and Safety Week.

“PWD officers and staff must remember that the Health and Safety Week was organised to disseminate information, improve awareness and for them to apply health and safety in their respective offices,” said Director of PWD’s Administration and Finance Pg Hj Mohd Noordin Pg Lela Perkasa Pg Hj Mohd Said.

He did not give the number of PWD staff who attended the three-day health and safety event.

Speaking during the closing of the Health and Safety Week yesterday, he said the event was an opportunity to understand the Workplace Safety and Health Order 2009.

Accident prevention is part of an important aspect of good management, he said.

“Management and employees must work together to ensure the workplace is free from any accidents. Top level management involvement is a priority in leading the implementation of workplace safety.

“Occupational safety and health policies must be planned and made known to all employees in the workplace. The organisation must be fully supportive of this,” he continued.

Pg Hj Mohd Noordin said health and safety must be communicated clearly, and preparations should not only include prevention but also recovery/rehabilitation.
