Brunei’s qari,qariah among top 5 placers in KL competition

BRUNEI’S qari and qariah to the 57th International Tilawah Al-Quran placed fourth in the competition held at World Trade Centre (PWTC) in Kuala Lumpur.
Ak Mohd Adibul Amin Pg Hj Marjuki and Hjh Siti Noor Dzuhairah Hj Awang Damit competed with 81 other qari and qariah from 47 countries including Egypt, Sri Lanka, Indonesia and Thailand.
Both represented the country after topping the National Quran Reading Competition 2015 held In April 28.
The Brunei delegation left on June 8 to compete in the six-day quran recitation competition held from June 9th to June 14th.
In a brief interview with The Brunei Times, Hjh Siti Noor Dzuhairah said that she was satisfied with the intensive course organised by the Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA) prior to the International competition.
“This is the fourth time I participated in this competition and the experience has definitely helped,” noting that the last time she took part was in 2003.
The qariah who finished with 86.47 per cent expressed her satisfaction in bagging fourth in the women’s category.
“Prior to the competition, I practiced the Quranic verses, its pronunciation and melody daily for almost a month,” she said.
She added that regular Quran recitation would not only fulfil the Islamic duty of a Muslim but also enhance the learning of Tajwid (the knowledge and application of the rules of recitation) and reciting it beautifully while learning about its interpretation.
Meanwhile, Ak Mohd Adibul Amin said he was able to deliver his best and was satisfied with his performance finishing with 90.10 per cent.
“Alhamdulilah, I really feel that Brunei performed well this year because we managed to be in the top five amongst other Muslim countries all over the world, honestly, it is a really big achievement,” he said.
Also representing Brunei as a judge was Hj Abd Rajid Hj Mohd Salleh, manager of the delegation Abd Rahim Hj Durahman and manager of the female participants Hjh Siti Mahyana PSKDPSS Dr Ustaz Hj Awang Yahya.
Joining the delegates to Kuala Lumpur were Voice and Melody coach Dato Paduka Hj Mohd Yusop Bakar and Tajwid and Fasahah coach Ustaz Hj Termizi Hj Mahmod.
Present yesterday to welcome back the two competitors were MoRa Permanent Secretary Dato Seri Setia Hj Abdul Aziz Orang Kaya Maharaja Lela Hj Mohd Yussof and its Deputy Permanent Secretary Hj Harun Hj Junid.
First place for the male category went to Iran while Malaysia and the Philippines came in second and third places respectively.
Meanwhile, Indonesia won first place for the female category, while the Philippines and Malaysia came in second and third respectively.
