Women’s Council hosts annual general meeting

THE Council of Women of Brunei Darussalam (MWNBD) will continue dealing with contemporary issues related to women and the family institutions within the country, said its president. 

In her welcoming remarks at the council’s annual general meeting, Pg Datin Paduka Hjh Mariam Pg Hj Matarsat, who held the post for the 2012-2014 term, explained that they would continue to serve as a non-governmental organisation representing women not only at a national level but also that of within the international arena.

 “Alhamdulillah, throughout these two years from October 2012 up to June 2015, a variety of programmes and activities have been carried out. These activities cover a wide range of areas including religion, education, community work, economics, visits in the region and internationally,” said Pg Datin Paduka Hjh Mariam.

“The Council of Women of Brunei Darussalam, InsyaAllah, will continue to contribute any ideas and cooperative partnerships that can be made in resolving current issues relating to the interests of women and families in the country,” she added.

The annual general meeting that was held at The Rizqun International Hotel saw the participation of over 80 members from associations affiliated with the MWNBD.

Several agendas were discussed during the meeting that included issues of importance to the council during the 2012 to 2014 term.

 It also saw the nomination and election of new administrative board members for the new term running 2015 – 2017.

The voting for the new administrative board members was coordinated and chaired by the Chief Commissioner of the Girl Guides Association of Brunei Darussalam, Hjh Siti Hafsah Hj Abdul Halim, however, results of the voting will only be announced at a later date which includes the election of the post of president.
