THE Russian embassy in Brunei Darussalam yesterday held a reception to celebrate the National Day of Russia at the Rizqun Hotel in Gadong.

Prior to the start of the ceremony, the national anthems of Brunei and the Russian Federation were played, followed by a speech by the Russian Ambassador to Brunei, His Excellency Vladlen Stanislavovich Semivolos.

He said that Russia is actively committed to further promote political dialogue with Brunei, in the interest of peace and security in Asia-Pacific.

“A good example of such cooperation is the joint initiative of Russia, Brunei and China on the formation of architecture of equal and indivisible security in the Asia-Pacific region,” Semivolos said.

“We see a lot of promising opportunities in the economic field. We intend to diversify trade and investment contacts, to improve the legal framework of our relations and to expand tourist exchanges,” he added.

Present as the guest of honour was the Minister of Education, Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Hj Awg Abu Bakar Hj Apong and his spouse, Datin Paduka Hjh Jahrah Hj Mohammad.
