THREE adjoining government barrack housing units near Jln Singa Menteri, Kuala Belait caught fire yesterday, but were put out before spreading to the rest of the block.

Responding to an emergency call at 11.56am last Tuesday, the Kuala Belait Fire Station deployed a unit of over 10 firemen led by its commander, Zulkeflee Alima. The team had the fire under control within 20 minutes,

All affected three units, located on the top floor of the housing block, were unoccupied. The cause of the fire is still being investigated, but the commander believes that it originated in B9, before spreading to two other units.

One of the block's residents, Laksamana Hj Tuah, said he heard screams when the fire broke out.

“My uncle and I then rushed to use a water hose to try help put out the fire while waiting for the fire and rescue. Fortunately the fire did not spread to any units occupied by families,” he said.
