Psychiatric check for Kg Pandan assailant
BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN
A MAN who ran amok in Kg Pandan and injured three people was ordered to undergo psychiatric evaluation yesterday after he was charged with causing hurt to a toddler.
The court document stated that defendant Ahmad Nazilah Yusof, 26, is charged with causing hurt to a toddler by cutting his neck with a knife on June 9 at the vicinity of Dewan Kg Pandan.
During the proceedings before chief magistrate Muhammed Faisal PDJLD DSP Hj Kefli yesterday, the prosecution said that, on the morning of June 9, the defendant’s father brought the accused to the Suri Seri Begawan Hospital after he observed his son talking to himself and knocking on the neighbours’ door.
However, during the visit to the hospital, the defendant never got to see a medical officer and an appointment was scheduled on June 25.
The defendant suddenly attacked around 5pm at the hall nearby the Kg Pandan housing area.
The defendant’s father surrendered Ahmad Nazilah to the police which led to his arrest that evening.
According to the prosecution, the police were not able to get a statement from the defendant as he was incoherent.
The prosecution further indicated that there were other victims and there is a possibility for other charges to be brought to court.
Meanwhile, the prosecution said that the toddler has been discharged from the hospital following an emergency surgery.
The chief magistrate granted the prosecution’s application for Ahmad Nazilah to be assessed at the Mental Health Unit at Suri Seri Begawan Hospital.
A further mention of the case is scheduled to be heard on June 24.
