INNOVATIVE ideas are needed in order to attract the younger generation to take part in the preservation of the local culture and arts.
“We need to be more proactive in thinking up new ways and methods to attract the attention of our youth and nation, so that we will be able to disseminate and promote our culture and noble values even more effectively,” said Culture, Youth and Sports Deputy M inister Datin Paduka Hjh Adina Othman on Thursday.
The statement was made during the two-in-one “International Museum Day” and “International Archives Day” celebrations at the Airport Mall in Berakas organised by the ministry. The one-day celebration carried the theme “Museums and Archives for a Sustainable Society” and saw various exhibition booths and activities for the public.
The celebration was also held as part of the activities to mark the Museums Department’s 50th anniversary this year.
The deputy minister also shared that based on the recent National Survey on Youth Understanding of Brunei Darussalam Culture and Arts conducted by the ministry and Universiti Brunei Darussalam in 2013, the level of youth experience in Brunei Malay culture was still low.
Today marked the International Archives Day which is observed to raise the awareness of the general public and decision-makers on the importance of archives as wells as value of effective management and preservation of records and archives.
It also aims to enhance creativity through the use of archival material which can in turn improve the creative industries in the country such as the production of drawings, models, buildings and products.
