Female programmers brush up skills at ‘CodeUp Women’
BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN
OVER 20 women representing various educational institutions on Saturday attended a forum called ‘CodeUp Women’, which aimed at enhancing their programming knowledge and explore the wide range of opportunities in the field of Information Communication Technology (ICT).
Held at Cosmopolitan College, the forum was the second one of its series, said a statement provided by Authority for Info-communications Technology Industry of Brunei Darussalam (AITI) yesterday.
During the session, it added, participants were given hands on experience and were guided through the basics of HTML5, CSS and JavaScript training. They also learnt how to ensure that web principals and writing codes are compatible with a range of devices.
The ‘CodeUp Women’ series was organised by TruSynergy in collaboration with AITI as part of an initiative under the ‘CodeNext’ project.
“It aims to create awareness and expose women to the world of programming,” the statement said.
This event was also held in conjunction with the Girls in ICT Day 2015, an initiative under the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) to create a global environment that empowers and encourages young women to consider careers in the growing field of ICT.
The ‘CodeNext’ project is a platform to drive the development of the ICT industry by encouraging young people to explore their potential in software development.
The project was first launched in March.
To date, several activities have been undertaken under this project including a seminar, a coding masterclass and the ‘CodeOff Challenge’, a competition to stimulate interest for programming by encouraging young people to collaborate in producing an application or software mockup.
