A WOMAN was imposed a $110,000 fine yesterday for possession of over 300 cartons of undeclared cigarettes.

The court document stated that the defendant, Safiah Hj Jaidin, 47, was caught in possession of the contraband during four separate occasions, once at the border while the rest during inspections at her vegetable stall.

In total, the customs officers found 311 cartons and 166 packets of untaxed cigarettes from the inspections they conducted on the defendant.

During the proceedings yesterday, the court ordered Safiah to pay the fine at $3,000 per month, or face 20 months in jail for in-default of payment.
