SIXTY former students from Sekolah Arab Raja Isteri Anak Damit and Sekolah Arab Lelaki Hassanal Bolkiah gathered on Friday to perform a Khatam Al-Quran at RPN Kampung Pandan 7.

The former students from years 1970 to 1975 included Deputy Minister at the Prime Minister's Office Dato Paduka Hj Ali Hj Apong, who expressed his gratitude at being able to meet and renew ties with his former classmates.

“With today's social media, interacting and renewing ties with my former classmates has been so much easier. There are a number of reunions being planned which can be easily scheduled through WhatsApp and other social media,” he said before the Khatam ceremony began.

He also expressed his thanks to Ustazah Jairamah and her family for hosting the ceremony.

“I hope that ceremonies of this nature, that spread goodwill and spirituality, can be continued and further relayed to involve the younger generation, especially the children of former students here today,” he added.

Ustazah Jairamah Duraman also said this was the third Khatam ceremony organised this year involving former Arabic school students.

“Many of us have stayed together in hostels, all the way until sixth form, only to take on our own separate paths as we continued our studies to higher learning institutions in Singapore, Malaysia, Egypt and London.”
