ST JOHN'S School in Kuala Belait donated $1,776 yesterday to the National Humanitarian Fund for Nepal earthquake victims, raising the total collected funds to almost $50,000.

Deputy Principal of St John's T Ramacandran presented the donation on behalf of the school to Head of Belait Community Development Department (JAPEM) Noridah Hj Ishak.

The Deputy Principal said that the donations were sourced over a period of two days from students and staff.

“We announced during an assembly two weeks ago that the school would be having a collection to help raise funds,” he said.

School prefects were assigned to collect any donation from the students, while teachers and other staff pooled in to add to the total funds raised.

“After we learnt what was happening to those in Nepal, we knew that we needed to do our part, in line with our school's motto ‘Service and Love’,” he added.

The National Humanitarian Fund for Nepal will be open for donations until July 31.
