INSTITUT Teknologi Brunei (ITB) yesterday kicked off its Youth Entrepreneurship Week, which saw about 70 small and medium enterprises (SMEs) showcasing and promoting their products and services.

Speaking at the launch, event chairperson Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Anak Muhammad Abdul Qayyum YAM Pg Sura Negara Pg Anak Hj Muhammad Bey Muntassir said the Youth Entrepreneurship Week was “geared towards celebrating entrepreneurial youths of Brunei”.

“We want to engage the dynamic network of young entrepreneurs, students and professionals to support growing local businesses and elevate entrepreneurial successes through three days of discussions, seminars, education, competitions and celebration,” he said.

Citing a titah delivered by His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam in 2011 where the monach said that business and entrepreneurship were integral to the nation’s economy and people, YAM Pg Anak Muhammad Abdul Qayyum hoped ITB and its School of Business would continue to provide support and guidance in the development of entrepreneurial qualities among their business students.

Organised by ITB first year business students, the three-day event is taking place at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium in Berakas.

Acting Vice-Chancellor of ITB Pg Dr Hj Md Esa Al-Islam Pg Hj Md Yunos launched the event as the guest of honour, before touring the stalls.

Other side activities included a business seminar conducted by Malaysian financial coach and entrepreneur Nazril Idrus, and a ‘Pecha Kucha’ night which saw presentations by nine local speakers on various topics.

Idrus is also expected to deliver another business presentation titled ‘How to become a leveraged six-figure income business owner’ today, which is open to the public.

Besides promoting entrepreneurship to students, Youth Entrepreneurship Week aims to train students to work in a team and provide aspiring entrepreneurs with the required skills.
