Nurses complete leadership course

ABOUT 150 nurses and midwifes ended their two-day leadership workshop yesterday in a certificate presentation ceremony.
The participants comprised of senior nursing officers, special level nursing officers, nursing officers, senior nurses, nurses, midwifes, dental nurses as well as paramedics of health institutions from four districts.
These institutions include the Gleneagles Jerudong Park Medical Centre (JPMC), The Brunei Cancer Centre (TBCC) and the Pengiran Anak Puteri Rashidah Sa’adatul Bolkiah Institute of Health Sciences (PAPRSB IHS), Universiti Brunei Darussalam.
Speaking with The Brunei Times, the president of the National Nursing Association of Brunei (PENJURU), Datin Paduka Hjh Suraya Noraidah Abdullah, said that the leadership workshop is the association’s first activity this year.
“We are facilitating this workshop held together with the Ministry of Health in conjunction with International Nurses Day,” she said, adding that the theme was ‘Celebrating Excellence in Nursing Leadership’.
The seminar allowed participants to explore leadership aspects by understanding systematic leadership principles, a press statement from the organiser said.
“(Nurses) will then be able to apply (leadership aspects) in their own nursing and midwifery fields towards an effective nursing model as well as public healthcare,” it added.
Presenting the certificates to the participants yesterday was the Acting Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Health, Dr Hjh Rahmah Hj Md Said.
The ceremony took place at the Ministry of Health.
