2 charged with murder of 43-year-old man

THE Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) is investigating two local men charged yesterday with the murder of a 43-year old man.

The statement issued by the RBPF stated that the Special Investigation Unit, Crime Investigation Department arrested two suspects on May 27 following a thorough investigation into an emergency call on May 23, regarding the discovery of a body inside a parked car at a business premise around Pandan 7 in Kuala Belait.

At the Magistrates’ Court yesterday, Prosecuting Officer Shamshuddin Hj Kamaluddin filed a joint-charge against the two men, Muhammad Hakimi Rizal Abdullah @ Eyan Anak Beritin, 33, and Muhammad Zulkifli Abdul Jalil, 27, accusing them of murder for the death of a 43-year old local man Ispawi Idris at a house in RPN Pandan 7, Kuala Belait on May 20. The charge carries the death penalty.

During yesterday’s proceedings, before acting Senior Magistrate Hjh Ervy Sufitriana Hj Abd Rahman, the prosecution sought for the defendants to be further remanded at separate police stations while investigation into the case is ongoing.

Shamshuddin told the court the that the crime scene had only just been processed plus several witnesses to be interviewed, and exhibits need to be processed as well.

The court granted the application for the two-week remand and ordered Muhammad Hakimi Rizal to be remanded at the Central Police Station in the capital while Muhammad Zulkifli is placed under the custody of the Berakas Police Station.

A further mention of the case has been scheduled on June 11.
