Special duties officer claims trial

A SPECIAL duties officer claimed trial yesterday over the charges of accepting landscaping and renovation works for his house from companies whom he knew had connection with his official function.
The defendant, a special duties officer with Estate Management Unit of the Government of Brunei Darussalam, Hj Othman Judin, is facing four counts under Section 165 of the Penal Code which forbids public servants from accepting valuable things from any persons with connection to their official function.
Documents submitted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Christopher Ng stated that the defendant is accused of accepting landscaping and renovation works on his home in Kg Perpindahan Lambak Kanan worth over $18,000 from four companies between 2009 and 2012.
Hj Othman, who is represented by defence counsel Yusof Halim, is released on a $10,000 court bail pending the next mention of the case on June 10.
