Moon sighting for Ramadhan on June 16

THE Brunei Islamic Religious Council (MUIB) announced that with the command of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah, Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, the sighting of the new moon for Ramadhan will be held on June 16, corresponding to the 29th of Syaaban 1436 Hijrah.

The moon sighting will be carried out simultaneously at several locations across the country.

In Brunei-Muara, the moon sighting will take place at the DST Tower on Tungku Highway and Bukit Agok in Jerudong, while the locations for Tutong and Belait will be Bukit Ambok and Bukit Lumut respectively.

The announcement was reported by state broadcaster Radio Televisyen Brunei (RTB) last night.

The first day of Syaaban for 1436 Hijrah falls on Tuesday, May 19. Muslims in the country will celebrate Nisfu Syaaban on June 1. Nisfu Sya’aban is celebrated every 15th of Syaaban, the eighth month of the Hijrah calendar.
