Man charged with molesting woman
BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN
THE Magistrates’ Court has extended the detention of a man charged with outraging the modesty of a woman to allow for further investigations that could lead to more charges against him.
Mohamad Ashri Hj Pungut, 44, is accused of using criminal force on a 40-year-old woman at an electronics shop on May 23, when the defendant groped her.
During the proceedings yesterday, prosecuting officer Shamshuddin Hj Kamaluddin sought for the defendant to be further remanded until Thursday as the police are investigating other possible charges against Ashri, including allegedly causing hurt to the victim, indecent exposure and trespassing at the victim’s house.
The prosecution further indicated that the defendant has an ongoing trial for another case involving stolen property, and he was released on court bail for that case.
He went on to say that the defendant’s remand is needed for questioning over the CCTV footage that was seized from the shop.
The presiding magistrate Hjh Ervy Sufitriana Hj Abd Rahman granted the prosecution’s application and ordered Ashri to be remanded at the Bandar Seri Begawan Police Station until a further mention of the case on May 28.
