4 more houses being built for new converts

FOUR more houses are being built for underprivileged new converts under the government’s housing assistance project.

Three houses will be built in Temburong and one in Kg Lumut, Belait.

Minister of Religious Affairs Yang Berhormat Pg Dato Seri Setia Dr Hj Mohammad Pg Hj Abdul Rahman laid the foundation for the three houses in Temburong as part of his working visit to the district yesterday.

The houses are expected to be completed in October this year.

YB Pg Dato Dr Hj Mohammad told reporters that the housing programme is a joint project between the Islamic Da’wah Centre and the ministry’s Buildings and Maintenance Department and funded by the Islamic Religious Council through the Zakat Asnaf Muallaf fund.

The project costs $233,904 with Bina JAJ Contractor as the main contractor. The bungalows will be equipped with one living room, three bedrooms, a kitchen and one bathroom.

The houses were built for Norhayati Abdullah in Kg Amo A, Zaharuddin Abdullah Lang in Kg Sibut and Nur Sabariah Abdullah Bungga in Kg Temada.

From 1993 to 2007, a total of 22 houses had been built in Temburong under the project.

Twenty of the houses were funded by the Islamic Da’wah Centre, while the remaining two were funded by the Zakat Asnaf muallaf fund.
