ALL shops and restaurants will not be allowed to operate after midnight effective May 14, a circular issued by the Bandar Seri Begawan Municipal Department said.

BSB Municipal Chairman Pg Dato Paduka Hj Abd Rahman Pg Seri Indera Pg Hj Ismail told The Brunei Times yesterday that this ruling will be applied nationwide, and respective municipal departments in the other three districts will soon issue the circular to their municipalities.

Asked whether vendors such as nasi katok shops who operate 24 hours a day will also be included in the ruling, Pg Dato Paduka Hj Abd Rahman said yes, and that this applies to all eateries and shops including sundry shops (kedai runcit).

According to the circular, if any shop is found operating beyond midnight, actions will be taken accordingly, such as releasing a notice, letter of suspension, or cancellation of the business licence.

The circular added that effective immediately, permission previously granted to shops or restaurants to operate after midnight have been revoked.
