THE Brunei Intellectual Property Office (BruIPO) under the Brunei Economic Development (BEDB) yesterday held an open day to mark the World Intellectual Property (IP) Day.

This year’s celebration, themed ‘Get Up, Stand Up for Music’, focused on issues relating to the pirating of creative works and promoting awareness about the benefits of the IP system for creative authors.

In support of the global theme, a group of local artists displayed their creative works at the open day held at the Anggerek Desa Technology Park’s Design and Technology Building.

Over 20 local food and beverage vendors together with 14 creative businesses and traditional product vendors were also featured. They were invited with the aim of spurring creativity among the youth as well as show the IP link between the creative process and profitability.

BruIPO also offered discounted filing fee for local establishments who registered their trademarks on that day in a bid to encourage local companies to protect their brand and raise awareness about the benefits of trademarks in enhancing business growth and competitiveness.

World IP Day is celebrated every April 26 by the World IP Organisation and its member states, including Brunei, with activities to demonstrate the function of IP and drive the technological innovation that “helps shape our world”.

Present at the event was the acting chief executive officer of BEDB, Hjh Hasnah Hj Ibrahim, and the senior management.
