THE Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) in conjunction with their 54th anniversary yesterday offered medical and dental treatment to over 100 Labi residents.

A team of 54 personnel from RBAF's Medical Services, Dental Services and Performance Optimisation Centre gave residents in Labi routine physical check-ups, testing for Body Mass Index (BMI), blood pressure and blood sugar levels at Labi 2's Multipurpose Hall from morning until afternoon.

Upon completing the check-up, residents were consulted by a doctor who analysed the collected results, writing referrals for those needing further specialised attention at hospitals. Residents were also given the option of getting a Japanese Encephalitis vaccination.

Lt Afifah Ali Hassan, who was involved in organising yesterday's roadshow, said the annual event is held by RBAF as a 'hearts and minds' effort to service the local community.

“Every year we will select a village or Mukim to visit and set up a number of basic services to do our part in assisting the community's health,” said Lt Afifah.

She added that RBAF's Hygiene personnel also carried out fogging control around three areas in Labi to prevent the spread of mosquito-borne diseases, as part of the programme.

“The three areas were fogged a total of three times each, over the course of two days over the surrounding perimeter of residences,” said Lt Afifah, who assured that the fog did not pose a risk to the environment.

Extractions, fillings, scaling and denture repairs were also offered yesterday under a makeshift dental unit set up specifically for the occasion.

Village Head of Labi 2 Hj Metusin Mat Zin said the roadshow was very beneficial for his community, who are located roughly 50 kilometres away from the closest health centre in Sg Liang.

“Residents from Labi are very grateful to the RBAF for setting up yesterday, to treat us free of charge and give us valuable advice on a number of common health problems like high blood sugar, cavities and obesity,” he said.

Before medical and dental services were offered yesterday, gathering residents held an aerobics session.

Present at the event were the Acting Commandant of the Combat Service Support under the Royal Brunei Land Force (RBLF) Col Dr Hafizul bin Hj Awang Hassan and Commanding Officer of RBLF's 3rd Batallion in Lumut Lt Col Hj Mohammad Shanonnizam Sulaiman.

The guest of honour was the Acting Penghulu of Labi Hanapi Mohd Siput.
