A WOMAN was fined $3,100 yesterday after she pleaded guilty to possession of untaxed cigarettes.

The court document stated that Customs Preventive officers had found six cartons and 51 packets of cigarettes during a raid on a house in Barek Daerah Tutong on May 31, 2013.

Following the investigation, the 47-year-old defendant, Rosnah Hj Ahad, admitted to purchasing all the cigarettes from a man who had delivered the contraband to her house.

The excise duty to be paid for the cigarettes was $514.

Following the sentencing, the court ordered Rosnah to pay the fines in installments until August or face three months in jail.
