Brunei, Johor seek to deepen ties

THE Malaysian state of Johor and Brunei are exploring opportunities to enhance cooperation.
This was stated in a press release issued by the Brunei State Mufti’s office yesterday.
Brunei’s State Mufti presented the inaugural paper at the opening ceremony of an international seminar in Johor Bahru, Malaysia, yesterday.
A statement from the State Mufti’s Office said YB Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia (Dr) Ustaz Hj Awg Abdul Aziz Juned left on Monday for the “Seminar Bicara Tokoh Antarabangsa Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Seri Utama Dr Hj Ismail Omar Abdul Aziz”.
Brunei’s Minister of Home Affairs, YB Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Hj Awg Badaruddin Pengarah Dato Paduka Hj Awang Othman is also attending the seminar.
He presented a working paper at the event yesterday.
Other senior officials attending the event include Pehin Jawatan Luar Pekerma Raja Dato Seri Utama Dr Ustaz Hj Mohd Zain Hj Serudin, the rector of Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA); Dr Hj Norarfan Hj Zainal and the Head of the Istinbat Officer at the State Mufti’s Office, Dr Hj Japar Hj Mat Dain @ Maidin.
The visit of the Brunei delegation to Johor is aimed at discussing and exploring opportunities for cooperation between Johor and Brunei while enhancing the close relationship between them that have existed for a long time, the statement added.
Besides the seminar, a five-day exhibition will be held at the International Convention Centre in Johor (PERSADA).
The seminar and exhibition is jointly organised by the Government of Brunei Darussalam and Johor State Government in conjunction with the coronation of His Royal Highness Sultan Ibrahim, son of the late Sultan Iskandar al-Sultan.– Izzati Jalil
