Brunei hosts 16th Borneo Island International Big Bike Festival

BRUNEI is currently hosting the 16th Borneo Island International Big Bike Festival (BIIBBF) to promote the country as a tourism spot.

The festival that began last night is expected to run for three days with over 650 local and international participants including those from Malaysian and Indonesia.

In his welcoming remarks, the President of Darussalam Motorcycle Association (PEMODA), Pg Hj Redzuan Pg Hj Ahmad said that this is the fifth time Brunei is hosting the festival.

“This festival will be able to promote Brunei as a tourist destination that is unique to explore. It will also provide motorcycle associations in Brunei to give back tour country through a unique and different ideology,” said the association’s president.

A charity golf tournament, a road safety awareness programme and sales booths are expected to be organised by the Road Safety Council and the grassroot associations during the course of the festival.

The highlight of the event is the ‘Green Heart of Borneo Ride’ where participants will be taking their bikes to iconic places in the country including Kampong Ayer, the Royal Wharf, the Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque and the Jame’ ‘Asr Hassanil Bolkiah mosque.

Present to oversee the launching of the 16TH BIIBBF was the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Laila Diraja Dato Seri Setia Hj Hazair Hj Abdullah.

The festival which is organised by PEMODA is being done in collaboration with the Tourism Department and Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources.
