7 foreigners netted in ’Operasi Cekup’

SIX foreign nationals who failed to show any identification documents or valid immigration passes have been brought to the Bandar Seri Begawan Police Station for further questioning.

The foreigners were apprehended on Tuesday night by the Enforcement Section of the of the National Registration and Immigration Department (JIPK) during Operasi Cekup at Mukim Sengkurong and Mukim Pangkalan Batu.

The section’s team of 15 personnel managed to surround houses occupied by the foreigners and issued special passes to 12 of them, as well as two letters directed to employers to assist with investigations.

Meanwhile in Belait, a foreigner believed to have overstayed in Brunei for over five years was also detained by immigration authorities.

Three officers from JIPK’s Kuala Belait Enforcement Section apprehended the man at Kg Sg Lalit on Tuesday during Operation Cekup which began at 8am.

In a press statement, JIPK reminded employers and foreigners to strictly adhere to customs and immigration’s rules and regulations. Foreigners charged and found guilty in court will be imprisoned, deported and black-listed from returning to Brunei.

The department added that they will continue to carry out operations individually and in collaborations with other enforcement agencies.

JIPK also urged members of the public to report any information related to immigration offences to the department at 8753888 or 8734888. Details of informants will be kept confidential.
