A BRUNEIAN qariah won third place in the 20 Juzu’ category at the 10th Hasyimiah Government International Memorisation, Recitation and Interpretation of Al-Quran for Women in Amman, Jordan.
Nur Ezzati Aqilah Rosli safely arrived back here at the Brunei International Airport, Berakas yesterday where she was greeted by officials from the Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA) led by its Permanent Secretary Dato Seri Setia Hj Abdul Aziz Orang Kaya Maharaja Lela Hj Mohd Yussof.
Nur Ezzati when interviewed yesterday said that she felt very fortunate and blessed to get third place in her category and that in among all her experiences of competing in Al-Quran recitals, this was the most difficult. Nur Ezzati said that it felt surreal as if she was listening to a radio broadcast of the event and she was unaware that she herself was one of the participants in that broadcast.
“Judging from the competition, Bruneians can actually win but we need more improvement in all aspects especially tajweed (pronunciation) and reading with melody.
“In order to achieve that, we need exceptional coaches. Both parties are important to achieve the first place,” she continued.
She also aimed to participate more in the next Al-Quran reading competition be it at the international or local stage. The competition was held at the King Abdullah’s Mosque Hall in Amman, Jordan from April 20 to 25 with 22 contestants in three different categories namely 30 Juzu’, 20 Juzu’ and 10 Juzu’ category.
Nur Ezzati is a relief teacher at Institut Tahfiz Al-Quran Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah. Her win marks Brunei’s fifth victory in the competition held by the Hasyimiah Government in Amman, Jordan.
