THE Internal Security Department (ISD) has detained another police officer under the country’s security laws, the second law enforcer to be apprehended this month.

In a statement issued on Thursday but embargoed until Friday, the department said Staff Sargeant Baha Hj Damit was issued a two-year detention order under Section 3(1)(a) of the Internal Security Act (Chapter 133) for his links with criminals within and outside the country.

The department said Sargeant Baha was involved in providing protection and leaking operational information to criminals involved in gambling activities, prostitution and illegal supply of alcohol into the Sultanate.

The statement further stated that Koh Tieng Poh, a foreign national, was imposed a two-year restriction order under Section 3(1)(b) of the Internal Security Act (Chapter 133) for his involvement with Hj Khairur Rijal Hj Abu Salim and in activities that jeopardise the security of the country.

Hj Khairur Rijal, former head of Special Investigation Unit at the Royal Brunei Police Force, was detained under the Internal Security Act earlier this month after he was found to have abused his power and conspired with criminals.

The department also sought public cooperation in always providing information that is deemed harmful to national security.

Those with knowledge of any suspicious activities were encouraged to contact the ISD hotline 133 or report to the nearest ISD branch.
