S’pore minister visits MinDef to hold talks

SINGAPORE’S Second Minister for Defence Lui Tuck Yew paid a visit to the Acting Minister of Defence Dato Paduka Hj Mustappa Hj Sirat yesterday at the Ministry of Defence (MinDef), Bolkiah Garrison.

Lui was greeted on arrival at the MinDef with a general salute. He then proceeded to inspect a Guard of Honour comprising personnel from the Second Battalion of the Royal Brunei Land Forces.

According to a statement from MinDef, Lui and Dato Paduka Hj Mustappa shared views on regional and international issues, emphasising their “continued commitment” towards defence initiatives in securing peace and stability in the region.

The acting minister of defence also congratulated Lui on his appointment as second minister of defence. Lui also serves as Singapore’s Minister for Transport.

As part of his introductory visit, Lui and the acting minister of defence viewed the exercise grounds of the 20th Maju Bersama, an annual bilateral exercise between Brunei and Singapore. The exercises of Semangat Waja and Rintins Bersama are also being held concurrently until April 26.

Permanent Secretary at MinDef Datin Paduka Hjh Suriyah Hj Umar and Acting Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces, First Admiral Dato Seri Pahlawan Abdul Aziz Hj Mohd Tamit along with other senior officials from MinDef, welcomed Lui yesterday.

Lui was accompanied by the Singapore High Commissioner to Brunei, Jaya Ratnam, and Singapore’s Defence Attache Colonel Lee Yong Heng.
