Repeat offender gets 3-years jail, 2 others fined for consuming drugs

A MAN was sentenced to serve three years in jail yesterday after he pleaded guilty to consuming drugs.

The court document states that defendant Razali, 31, was among the three other persons who were arrested on February 24, 2011 during a raid led by Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) over drug related activities. Following investigation, Razali tested postive with the presence of methamphetamine or locally known as syabu following analysis by the Department of Scientific Services on the defendant’s urine sample.

During the proceeding yesterday at the Magistrates’ Court, Razali was ordered to serve the mandatory three years imprisonment as the defendant is a second offender under the Misuse of Drugs Act in which he has a previous conviction for consuming drugs in 2007. Meanwhile, in the two other drug cases heard yesterday, each men were imposed a fine after they pleaded guilty to drug consumption charges.

Defendant Abdul Rahman, 24, was fined $1,500 while defendant Fauzi, 31, was fined $1,000.
