STUDENTS of the Sayidina Hussain Secondary School were warned of the dangers of international drug syndicates in a talk by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) yesterday.

During the talk titled Program Pembangunan Sahsiah Diri Pelajar, Hj Halimee Musdella Hj Mustafa from the NCB told the Year 7 and Year 8 students of the school that the youth is a primary target for drug syndicates.

He shared the drug syndicates’ tactics to lure drug mules through social media, including platforms such as Whatsapp, Facebook and Instagram.

“The youth is seen as innocent and easily influenced, and thats why they often become drug mules in the Sultanate and across the globe,” he said.

The students were also reminded to avoid suspicious requests from strangers on the internet or in public, and warned them not to trust strangers who offer jobs, tours or gifts.

Hj Halimee also warned the students on the dangers of drug abuse among the youth, adding that drug addiction could lead to other criminal activities such as robbery and family abuse.

The NCB officer said that the problem must be addressed at its source, in which he pointed that negative influences such as cigarette smoking often lead the youth to drugs.
