Half a million dollars raised for Malaysia flood victims

CLOSE to half a million dollars had been raised for the Humanitarian Fund for Malaysia’s Flood Victims.

A total of $488,147.63 was handed over in a presentation ceremony at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports yesterday.

The humanitarian fund was established on January 10 and ran until April 9.

On hand to receive the donations on behalf of the government were Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Laila Diraja Dato Seri Setia Hj Hazair Hj Abdullah and Minister of Religious Affairs Yang Berhormat Pg Dato Seri Setia Dr Hj Mohammad Pg Hj Abdul Rahman, as adviser to the humanitarian fund.

Hundreds of thousands of people were displaced by Malaysia’s worst floods last December.

The donation ceremony also coincided with the closing meeting of the Humanitarian Fund, which was chaired by MCYS Permanent Secretary Dato Paduka Dr Hj Affendy POK Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Hj Abidin.

The committee of the fund expressed their appreciation and thanked individuals, groups, departments, associations, and companies for their generosity towards the humanitarian fund.

Also present at the ceremony were Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs Pg Dato Paduka Hj Bahrom Pg Hj Bahar, Permanent Secretary of Religious Affairs Dato Seri Setia Hj Abd Aziz OKML Hj Mohd Yusof, and MCYS Acting Deputy Permanent Secretary Hj Amer Hamzah POK Amar Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Hj Zakaria.
