25 new cub scouts trained

THE Brunei Darussalam Scouts Association (BDSA) yesterday trained 25 newly-appointed members on the basics of scouting.
The cub scout trainees came from the Orang Kaya Besar Imas Subok Primary School and Kampung Mata-Mata Primary School. The training was conducted at the association’s headquarters in Beribi.
Organised by the cub scout section, the training included teaching the roles and responsibilities of a scout member, the full dressing of the scout uniform, memorisation of the scout’s theme song and sign languages.
Hjh Noraini Hj Saidi, National Scout Headquarter Commissioner (cub scout section) course director, said the participants were also exposed to skills development like leadership, teamwork and values required of a scout member.
She said the training was conducted to assist new scouts cope with challenges and to facilitate a cohesive and consistent environment for the cub scout members.
The new cub scouts familiarised themselves with the scout rankings.
They were also briefed on the flags of the ASEAN countries, and were taught about the proper etiquette of folding, carrying and hoisting the national flag.
Further training and tests for the new cub scout members will be held on May 1 and May 8.
The presentation ceremony of their scout badges is set on May 22.
