DBP selects Brunei-Muara’s top storyteller

A YOUNG student was selected to represent the Brunei-Muara District at the upcoming nationwide storytelling competition yesterday.

Director of the Language and Literature Bureau (DBP) Hjh Aminah Hj Momin said that 119 students – aged nine to 12 – from various schools in the district participated in a selection process from Feb 26 until March 4 during the National Book Fair.

The winner was among the ten chosen to compete in yesterday’s semi-finals at the Sarmayuda Hall of The Language and Literature Bureau (DBP) in Berakas.

The winner will go on to represent the Brunei-Muara District at the nationwide storytelling competition slated in May.

Dato Ratna Hj Md Jaafar Kiarong Primary School’s Siti Khadijah Md Asnawi was named the winner yesterday.

Second place went to Nur Hadinah Jofray from the Pengkalan Batu Primary School and third place went to Nurinmirza Qhairunnisa Suhardi from St Andrew’s School.

Hjh Aminah, meanwhile, urged parents and guardians to hand their children a book on World Book and Copyright Day which falls on April 23.
