THE Council on Social Welfare (Majlis Kesejahteraan Masyarakat or MKM) will be holding a forum tomorrow to raise awareness of children’s rights among non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in Brunei Darussalam.

The one-day event, to be held at Star Lodge Hotel, will focus on recent developments on children’s rights in the region and opportunities in pursuing a child rights agenda in ASEAN.

“It will be an opportunity for non-government organisations in Brunei Darussalam to engage in dialogue with its representative to the ASEAN Commission on the Promotion and Protection of the Rights of Women and Children (ACWC) who will be presenting the child rights situation in the country,” said MKM in a statement yesterday.

The event – organised in partnership with the Ateneo Human Rights Center and Save the Children – will be attended by NGOs that work closely with children in Brunei.

The forum will feature presentations from Brunei’s representative to the ACWC, Datin Paduka Hjh Intan Hj Mohd Kassim; Jaymie R Reyes from the Working Group for ASEAN Human Rights Mechanism; and Hope E Tura from Save the Children.

Discussions will focus on child rights advocacy and how NGOs can contribute to building a child rights’ agenda in Brunei.
