A FEMALE passenger sustained major facial injuries yesterday when her hatchback vehicle was pinned beneath a large truck after an early morning collision in Kg Menglait.

The 42-year-old woman was immediately taken to Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha (RIPAS) Hospital following the horrific accident, where she underwent emergency surgery to repair her severely broken jaw.

According to the Bandar Seri Begawan Police Station, a distress call was reported at 9.39am about an accident involving a Kia hatchback and Isuzu truck at a commercial area along Jalan Gadong.

The 43-year-old male driver of the hatchback vehicle sustained small cuts to his face and legs, while the 25-year-old foreign driver of the large truck escaped the crash unhurt. As of press time, both the driver and passenger of the Kia vehicle remained at RIPAS Hospital for treatment.

However, the cause of the collision has yet to be ascertained as the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) is currently investigating the accident.

RBPF advised drivers to exercise caution while travelling and to abide by road traffic rules to prevent accidents. They were also reminded to use the headlights on their vehicles and to be on alert when driving in adverse weather conditions.
